The “Real” You & the Many Masks that We Wear

It’s true we all wear masks, and I’m not just referring to our recent fun at the church Fall Festival & our October 31st 5th Quarter @ the DeKalb Theater. We all pretend even when it’s not Halloween. We pretend to have it all together. We pretend to have it all figured out. We mask our feelings. We mask our pain. We pretend that all is well, even when things are out of balance in our lives, or even worse we pretend to be fine even when we are dealing with an inner chaos in our hearts and minds. Our faith community can be a place where we find friends (peers and adult youth leaders) that understand our hurts, fears, and worries. I pray that First Baptist Church is a people and a place where you do not have to pretend. We want to know the real you. It’s my belief that nobody really has it all figured out, and it’s the community of faith that enables us to grow together, hurt together, and gain clarity on what life is really all about together.

You don’t have to pretend with God. God knows the real you. He made you. He loves you. He even sent Jesus into the world that you may know that God loves the real you. No more pretending. Be who God has made you to be. Remember this word from Scripture:

This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. (1 John 4:10)

God loves the real you with a real love.

Looking Ahead to December

Christmas Parties @ Allie Locklear’s House (middle school on the 10th) & Debra Story’s House (high school on the 17th) will begin @ 5pm. Dr. Pat, Dr. Roger, Doris, & Jeff love you each. We pray that you have a wonderful holiday season. The Christmas tree is already up in the youth room (special thanks to Sara Mc for all her decorative assistance and to a future member of the youth group: Alex for taking the lead in our first ever: “hanging of the playdough”). Remeber Youth Choir members to mark your calendar for “the hanging of the green” on December 7th.

The Year that Will Be: 2009

We are currently hard at work to offer each student in the youth group an opportunity to grow deeper in their relationship with God through various youth services, missions opportunities, and other events. Mission endevours in Fort Payne (like VBS @ our church), outside our state (like MFUGE & Spring Break Missions), and outside our country (like our ‘09 Trip) are being currently explored, prepared, and planned. Please pray for us as the 2009 youth ministry calendar takes shape. We hope to announce a Sunday after church parent meeting soon. Please pray for our wonderful friends… The Jennings Familyas well. Thank you.
