THIS GENERATION – September 2007

It Feels Like Football Season

The air is a bit cooler. The darkness of night is replaced by the Friday night lights. After untold hours of practice, the high school band members play wonderful sounds of celebration & victory, and the cheerleaders shout, flip, & leap with an amazing endurance & energy. When anticipation is at its greatest level, then the hard working team takes to the field, all of us in the bleachers stand to our feet. It’s a wonderful feeling this time of year. It feels like football season. The students of First Baptist Church want to congratulate all of the hard working students, parents, FPHS staff, and other members of the community that make game night so special. The Bible reminds us of the importance of sharing the love of Christ wherever we are & in whatever we do. FOR MORE SEE:       2 Corinthians 5:20Maybe a football game sounds like a strange place to share, but if we are truly open to the possibilities that God makes available to us, we may discover that God is calling us to share his love even in the unique context of our FPHS Football season.

We recently had a guest speaker at one of our regular Wednesday night meetings. J.D. Hornbuckle* (not to be confused with his half brother, J.T., from MFuge St. Louis) came and shared one of his “motivational talks.” After J.D. left, he said that every single student he talked to was very friendly, and he was made to feel welcomed. Maybe that is one of the best things about FBC. If we can work hard to help others to feel a sense of belonging whenever they step through the door of the church, then we are doing our best. God has given us a wonderful opportunity to welcome and love others. Come & be a part of one of the best things about FBC… Wednesday            @ 5:55Sunday AM 9:15 Sunday School   10:30 Worship   Sunday PM @ 4:45* J.D. is also known as Fred Bueto – youth pastor in Decatur, husband of Kim, & one of Jeff & Thea’s best friends in the world.DON’T FORGET TO SIGN UP & SUBMIT YOU PAYMENT OF $50 TO THE CHURCH OFFICE FOR OUR OCTOBER 12-14 FALL RETREAT.
